Why doesn't the F9K1106 range extender function with the same security key requirements as the F9K1102 router? Why doesn’t the documentation specify the F9K1106 range extender security key requirements?Being unfamiliar with it I wasted about 45 minutes of my time to realize it then another 30 minutes on the phone with Belkin to have them tell me what I already knew.Amazon replaced it and was able to get the replacement up and running. The instructions CD in the box and label on the device indicated it was the Belkin F9K1106 Dual Band Range Extender that I ordered. The setup information instructed me to connect the range extender to the Ethernet port of my computer, plug in the power supply, open a browser, type in [...], and follow the onscreen instructions.
The first one I received was DOA right out of the box.
Once the range extender was assigned a network name and password, it worked well with any kind of computer. There is NO 800 number or Chat on the Belkin site, so I followed their instructions in the FAQs to re-load the firmware. Must be a reason this model is discontinued and has been replaced.
It works very well, but I gave it a 4-star rating because of the necessity of a Windows computer for the initial setup. I downloaded and reinstalled the same firmware it came with. I previously purchased a Belkin F9K1102 router that I set up with a strong security key containing 22 characters, including special characters.
Apparently, a Windows computer is necessary for the initial setup.
